Sometimes I wonder what it is that I love so much about photography. I am terrible at pretty much all art, my idea of drawing is stick figures, and my most creative projects are borrowed from pinterest.
My main photographic interests are composition, natural light, and long exposures. Not so into postproduction work, I can appreciate photoshop and use it occasionally, but most of the stuff I post is straight out of the camera, because, well, it's quicker and easier. Sometimes I'll think, "This would look a lot better if I layered this/changed the contrast on that/etc."
The human eye is pretty amazing. It can see way more colors than a camera, and the iris focuses at a much more impressive rate. The depth of field is far greater. However, sometimes this can skew things. Photography has a way of making everything simpler, and easier to see.
Sometimes, things that look plain, boring, or uninteresting to the human eye can be made interesting when looking at it through the lens of a simpler device such as a camera.

Then there are times when the camera really can see things you can't, or you can help it to anyway, which is why I love long exposure photography. I wish I had more examples, but I'm working just off what I've taken the last couple of weeks. In life, we have a tendency to dismiss things that aren't what we expected, or to only evaluate what we see to be there at first glance.
Sometimes, removing details and clutter can actually help you too see more...things that you otherwise might have missed. Black and white is a good example of this.
And sometimes, photography can even work miracles. It can take things you hate about yourself, your rawest insecurities, and make it ok. Maybe, in its simplicity, even beautiful.
I guess what it comes down to is,
in a world that is not black and white but really rather gray, photography helps me to embrace that. It is my outlet, my therapy, and a way for me to reflect on the things in my life that are more complicated than they seem. There are no easy answers, and a lot of the time, I feel as though I am just stumbling my way through it....trying to find that source of light.
Rather like photography.
***for obvious reasons, I may decide to make this private, as it is pretty personal. Haven't really decided yet.

OH MY GOODNESS I AM SO DEEPLY OFFENDED I THINK I SAW A BIT OF YOUR BOOB. Which I have never, ever seen before. A billion times. Since we were kids. LOL.
No, seriously, beautiful pics- all of them! Love the metaphor, too. And I'm so impressed with your DIY maternity shots... they came out way better than mine (last year)... it's so freaking hard to take pictures of yourself!!
And I love cute lil nakee toddler butts. :)
